Stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities
Acupuncture has its origins in traditional Chinese Medicine and is commonly seen as a form of complementary or alternative medicine. It is used to address pain and to stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities by stimulating sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles.
It involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body, based on your condition. Several points may be used during a typical session. An initial acupuncture session usually lasts 20 minutes to 1 hour, and will include an assessment of your general health, medical history and physical examination, prior to the insertion of the acupuncture needles.
Courses of treatment will typically involve several separate sessions depending on your condition, and the response your body has over time. Acupuncture is often used to treat tension headaches and migraines. It is alsouseful in the treatment of certain musculoskeletal conditions such as chronic back or neck pain, joint pain, dental pain and post-operative pain. Acupuncture has also been seen to assist with treating other conditions such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia, allergies and digestive disorders, to name but a few.
