Prosthetist / Orthotist
Tom graduated from the University of Salford as a qualified Prosthetist/Orthotist in 2013
Tom began his career as an orthotist in London working at some of the most prestigious hospitals in the country, including Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, Kings College Hospital, and The Royal London Hospital. After gaining a wealth of experience in London, Tom took a Senior Orthotist position at the world-renowned Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic (RJAH) Hospital.
Tom has been at RJAH since 2016 and spends much of his time in the Orthotic Research and Locomotor Assessment Unit (ORLAU).
Within this role, Tom provides expert orthotic advice during 2D and 3D gait assessments for patients referred from all over the country. In addition to this, Tom assesses for and prescribes contracture correction devices (CCDs), provides clinical expert advice to MSc and PhD students, and works alongside engineers to help develop orthotic componentry.
Tom has specialist knowledge of how to manage gait pathologies caused by neurological conditions including Cerebral palsy, Spina Bifida, Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT), Spinal Cord Injuries, and Polio.
Tom regularly delivers keynote presentations nationally about these subjects to orthopaedic consultants, registrars, and health care professionals.
As an independent practitioner, Tom provided orthotic services to the British Para-cycling team during the run up the 2016 Rio Paralympic games.
The custom-made carbon fibre ankle foot orthoses (AFOs) that Tom provided enabled their athletes to achieve goals that were previously unobtainable, including world records and gold medals.

Outside of orthotics, Tom is an avid basketball player and represents Wrexham in the North Wales amateur basketball league. Tom loves spending time with his wife and 2 young children.
